This includes Sapling Learning, a market-leading STEM online homework platform for lecture courses currently used by over one million students per year. Meet the Founders

JAMES CARAS, PH.D.
CEO

Jamie is a passionate educator and entrepreneur. He taught biochemistry at the University of Texas at Austin, founded Sapling Learning, and has also served as President of STEM and Chief Product Officer at Macmillan.

BRIAN ARNESON, PH.D.
Director of Product

Brian is a chemical educator who developed UT Austin’s ChemBridge program and a microscale general chemistry lab curriculum. While leading Product at Sapling Learning and Assessment at Macmillan, Brian built the most effective and widely used STEM education products in the world today.

TONY SHROUT, PH.D.
Director of Labs

Tony is an avid tutor who believes lab-based learning is critical to science learning and problem-solving. This passion is combined with his significant teaching experience and history of building learning products while at Sapling Learning.

TIM SMITH
CTO

While at Macmillan, Sapling Learning, and Uprise Publishing, Tim provided senior technology leadership and built highly scalable learning software platforms.

GREG BENSON, CPA
CFO

While at Macmillan, Sapling Learning, and Yonder, Greg has led finance teams, developed financial forecasts and annual business plans process, and working with the senior leadership teams on the development and execution of strategic initiatives.
