Catalyst Education was founded by science educators who have had a tremendous impact on lowering the cost of educational materials.

At Sapling Learning, we helped usher in the move to open educational resources (OER) in the STEM disciplines by being one of the earliest partners with OpenStax, helping save students millions of dollars each year by providing and directly marketing a textbook-independent online homework system that was configured to be used alongside low- to no-cost OER textbooks. We were also the first company to bundle a digital learning platform with used, previous editions of textbooks, which saved students hundreds of thousands of dollars each year at the University of Arizona alone.

At Catalyst Education, our mission to provide students with the highest instructional value at the lowest cost continues. We have partnered with many universities to become the largest publisher of high-quality OER lab manual content, with over 300 versions of over 150 lab experiments hosted on our website and accessible for free to the global STEM education community. We are also an OpenStax and Libre Texts partner for further distribution of our free and open OER lab curriculum.

Our lab learning platform, Labflow, wraps digital learning experiences around OER materials as well as a custom lab curriculum authored and provided by science departments at a low cost that provides tremendous value to students within lab courses.

In fact, most universities find that when they switch from a custom-published print lab manual to Labflow (with integrated custom content), the cost to their students is considerably reduced.
