Partner Spotlight: How One Canadian Institution Uses Labflow

In a recent post to McGill University’s Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) blog, Dr. Alice Cherestes shared how Labflow is used in her General and Organic Chemistry courses. Here at Catalyst Education, we’re proud to get such valuable insights into our solutions from someone who is engaged in education.

Dr. Cherestes noted how beneficial Labflow proved to be for both remote learning and hybrid models during the 2020–21 academic year. During the fall 2020 semester, the lab modules were synced with the lecture material. When labs opened back up for in-person learning during the winter 2021 semester, Dr. Cherestes found that students who had used Labflow “displayed more confidence at manipulating materials in the lab.” Those who had not used Labflow asked basic questions—which the students using Labflow knew how to answer.

Dr. Cherestes highlighted the ways Labflow offers flexibility for lab instructors, which can be especially helpful during times of remote learning. Dr. Cherestes also noted how beneficial Labflow is when it comes to academic integrity. Along with included randomized data, making it difficult for students to cheat, Labflow allows students to improve their scores by offering real-time feedback and also lets institutions include academic integrity statements in lab reports and quizzes.

Beneficial for both students and instructors, Labflow helps reduce student frustration and anxiety by preparing students for the lab. The analytics offered through Labflow provide deep insights into the learning performance of students as well as grading. With unrivaled faculty support and powerful customization to meet the unique nature of each department’s lab courses, Labflow empowers teaching in any setting.
