Lab skills are an important facet in assessing student understanding and learning in lab settings. However, current approaches often rely on the qualitative assessment of students’ lab skills by an instructor or TA. Such assessments are inherently subjective and may be missing other data sources that could help operationally define a lab skill and benchmarks of mastery.
